About
A collection of live bhajans and kirtans led by Madhava Dasa. His singing touches the heart; his chanting is always sweet and full of energy and devotion.
Kirtan is a timeless form of spiritual music that experienced a revival during the Bhakti movement of 15th century India. Kirtan features the use of call-and-response, also common in Western bluegrass, gospel and jazz. The form is simple: a lead group calls out the mantras in certain melodies, and the crowd responds, clapping and dancing as the rhythms build and accelerate.
The mantras used in kirtan are mainly comprised of Sanskrit names for the Divine. Kirtan is a consciousness-transforming activity, where music and song bring participants together in a beautiful experience of a collective expression of the Divine. The mantras quiet the mind. The music frees the heart.
