About
With their debut album The Mayapuris are quickly becoming the most talked-about group in the growing genre of kirtan/chant world music. Fueled by the artists' lifelong love of music and dance, this album blazes with the Mayapuri's passion for kirtan.
This debut album is named after the mridanga, a clay and leather drum from Mayapur, India, where kirtan/chant music originated. This album showcases the musical versatility of The Mayapuris and the instruments they play. Special guests include Gaura Vani & As Kindred Spirits, Benjy Wertheimer of Shantala, and Grammy-nominated Jai Uttal.
Using vocals, flute, harmonium, and (of course) the mridanga, this group creates a musical experience you are sure to enjoy. From the captivating vocals, to the fast beat of the drums, and the poetry of the Bengali and Sanskrit songs, The Mayapuris add their unique voice and style to the music world.
